ITM University has developed a robust ecosystem that promotes creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship through research, technology development, and knowledge transfer initiatives. In line with the Ministry of Education’s vision, the university established the Institution Innovation Council (IIC) in 2021 to foster a systematic culture of innovation on campus.
Over the years, ITM University’s consistent efforts in fostering innovation and startup culture have earned it notable recognition - a 4-star rating for 2020-21, a 3.5-star rating for 2021-22, and 3-star ratings for both 2022-23 and 2023-24 sessions under the IIC framework. The IIC aims to engage faculty, students, and staff in a wide range of innovation and entrepreneurship activities during the pre-incubation and incubation stages, including ideation, problem-solving, proof-of-concept development, design thinking, intellectual property rights (IPR), and project execution.

  • Pre-Incubation: The School of Engineering and Research is home to two advanced labs - the Advanced Design and Multidisciplinary Research Center (ADMRC) and HiTech Blue Lab. These facilities provide faculty and students access to resources such as robotic prototyping, PCB design, mechanical design, 3D printing, assembly, and testing. Several robotics projects developed here have been successfully showcased to industries and government organizations.
  • Incubation: As an MSME-approved Host Institute (Business Incubator), ITM University hosted the State-level MSME IDEATHON 4.0 on November 5, 2024, where selected teams moved forward to compete at the national level.
  • Drone Academy (Supported by Aries Agro Ltd.): Established on campus to incubate drone-related startups, this academy also trains farmers to earn income by offering drone services for agricultural purposes, such as pesticide and insecticide spraying.

This integrated framework strengthens ITM University’s position as a forward-thinking institution committed to nurturing future innovators and entrepreneurs.

Major Focus

The Institution Innovation Council (IIC) focuses on creating an enabling environment by leveraging the state’s natural and human resources, particularly in tribal areas. It aims to foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaboration to maximize the utilization of domestic strengths while directly or indirectly involving citizens in startups to enhance their quality of life.
Additionally, IIC is committed to promoting gender equality by encouraging and training women in entrepreneurship. It strives to establish a mutually beneficial synergy with local populations, leveraging innovations created within the university to drive inclusive growth and community development.

Function of IIC

The IIC conducts various innovation, intellectual property rights (IPR), and entrepreneurship-related activities as MIC prescribes in a structured and time-bound manner. It organizes workshops, seminars, and interactions with entrepreneurs, investors, and professionals to inspire student innovators and create a robust mentor network.
Other key functions include fostering collaboration with national entrepreneurship organizations, maintaining an innovation portal, and promoting research and innovation through hackathons, idea competitions, and industry-linked activities. By recognizing and rewarding outstanding innovations, the IIC highlights success stories to inspire the next generation of innovators.

The vision is to empower students with opportunities to cultivate leadership qualities and establish ethical businesses. The platform aims to create a ripple effect by fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, generating employment opportunities, and driving societal progress.
It aspires to nurture entrepreneurial spirit by combining ethical business practices with innovation, enabling students to transform ideas into impactful ventures while contributing to sustainable economic development.

Mission

The mission is to advance entrepreneurial theory and practice through knowledge creation and dissemination. It seeks to inspire and guide students in innovating, incubating, and launching successful businesses that address real-world challenges.
Additionally, the mission emphasizes building a robust entrepreneurial culture by providing students with the resources, mentorship, and opportunities needed to establish ventures, create value, and contribute to a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Objectives

The objectives are to foster a culture of innovation and enterprise development among students and faculty, enabling them to address challenges and remain self-reliant. It aims to provide skill training, mentorship, and connections with peers, mentors, and incubators to support entrepreneurial growth.
Additionally, the initiative promotes social entrepreneurship, builds networks with educational institutions and funding agencies, and enhances students' confidence through mentorship and opportunities to transform ideas into impactful ventures.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP & INNOVATION AT ITM UNIVERSITY, RAIPUR

At ITM University, Raipur, entrepreneurship and innovation are encouraged and deeply embedded in the academic and co-curricular ecosystem. Through the Institution Innovation Council (IIC), established per the Ministry of Education’s guidelines, the university has fostered a vibrant startup culture by engaging students, faculty, and staff in diverse innovation-centric initiatives.
Over the past four years, nearly 200 innovation-driven activities have been conducted, including workshops, ideation camps, design thinking sessions, pitch events, and mentorship programs. These initiatives aim to establish a solid entrepreneurial thinking and problem-solving foundation, empowering students to transform their ideas into viable businesses.
A testament to the university’s impactful ecosystem is the successful mentorship and guidance provided to six emerging startups, supported by the collective efforts of ITM University mentors, the CII-Young Indians Raipur Chapter, and IIT Kanpur. These startups include:

A B.Tech Computer Science student won the Chhattisgarh Inter-University Startup Competition and was awarded a funding grant of ₹50,000 during Yuva Utsav 2024, organized by CII-Young Indians Raipur Chapter, to scale up his startup initiative.

The students of the Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) program secured 1st Prize and a cash award of ₹20,000 for their startup, DevNullX Technology Pvt. Ltd., at “DISRUPT 4.0”, hosted by the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Naya Raipur.

The students from the Bachelor's of Business Administration (BBA) program bagged the 2nd Prize and a cash award of ₹5,000 at “IDEATHON 4.0”, a business plan competition held at Kalinga University, Naya Raipur. Their startup, Surbhi Incense, also won the 3rd Prize at IIIT Naya Raipur for its innovative approach in creating natural and sustainable incense products, further solidifying their impact in the eco-friendly consumer goods space.
